Popsicle Stick Bridge

Popsicle Stick Bridge

The Design Problem
How are we going to build a bridge that is strong?

The Design Brief
I’m going to design and make a popsicle stick bridge. What you do is glue popsicles together until it makes a bridge. The bridge has to be strong enough to support as much weight as it can.

The safety problems that can occur is that the popsicle sticks can fling up at anytime and hit someone in the eye. The general size is supposed to be roughly about 55 cm. What it is suppose to do is support weight before it brakes. The general properties of the materials needed are the popsicle sticks, white glue, and a stand to hold it up when the weight goes down on it.
Analysis
Will the design be safe?
What will be needed to finish this project?
How long will it take to finish the design?
Does this design need to be done with other people?
What’s the strongest way to build the Popsicle stick bridge?
What design won’t last long hold the weight?
What is the best shape for the design?
Is my solution likely to solve the design problem?
Who is the design for?
What research needs to be collected?

Synthesis
The design might be safe. It all depends on if you want to make it safe.
What are needed to finish the project is popsicle sticks, a platform to hold the bridge, white glue, and a free space to test the design for strong ness.
It all depends on if you constantly work on it or if you just do it a little bit at a time.
You could do the design with other people; but in my option it is way easier to work on it all by yourself.
The strongest way to build the bridge would be to make the walls in a triangle or in an X. Therefore all the pressure will go either on the top or in the middle.
The design that would last long is probably going to be just to make the walls the same as the bottom and top; and not even trying to make it strong.
The best shape is probably going with the X shape or the triangle.
My solution might solve the design problem.
The design is for my teacher; it’s for a class assignment, and it is to see what group will build the strongest bridge.
The research that needs to be collected might be to see other people’s Popsicle stick bridges.

Research

Materials: Popsicle stick, weights, stand, & white glue

Safety: the general safety issues are going to be just be careful when you do the project.

Existing examples:

Environmental & Cultural aspects: i don't think that this tipe of project needs environmental and cultural aspects.

Colours/themes/image/etc: the image is to make it very strong to be able to support as much weight as possible.

Evaluation
1. What do you think of the overall design?
2. Are you happy with the materials you choose?
3. Did the project take to long to make?
4. Is the solution the right size/shape?
5. Does it work?

I think that the overall design is very good, and well creative.
I’m very happy with the materials I choose.
The project toke to long to make, because it toke us three days to finish it and other groups didn’t take that long.
The solution is the right size, in fact it is the perfect size and shape and length.
We don’t know if it works just yet. It will be at the end of the class rotation when we find out who’s bridge is the strongest.

Computer Hardward Project

The design problem is how we are going to do something like this. I am going to design/install and make a computer hardware. First you install the hardware piece you need. Then you put the computer back together. Then download the software into the computer. Then you are done.

QUESTIONS:
1. Will the design be safe?
2. What tools are available?
3. How long will the product take to manufacture?
4. What is the best shape for this solution?
5. What is the cost of the product?
6. What type of circuit is required?
7. What special features need to be built into the designs?
8. Who is going to buy the product?
9. What will the finished product do?
10. Could they be improved?
ANSWERS:
1. My design will be safe because I will test a model/prototype first.
2. I will need general tools and machinery to manufacture my design.
3. My design will take two class periods to make and only 10 minutes on a production line.
4. The solution will also include movement.
5. The cost would be between $10 - $20.
6. ???
7. The special features is the system are the graphics card, and the
8. People who want a computer will buy this product.
9. The finished product will do computer stuff that a computer does!!
10. The computer systems can always improve. Every year our computers get improved and
they work better than the last one before it!!

RESEARCH

Materials: the computer, the tower, the mouse, a keyboard, the graphics card, the internet, and a USB key

Photographs:

CD-ROM/Internet:
Computer machinery and equipment, including memory, cabling,
power supply, peripheral devices, and circuit boards. Computer operation requires both hardware and software. Hardware design specifies a computer’s capability; software instructs the computer on what to do. The advent of microprocessors in the late 1970s led to much smaller hardware assemblies and accelerated the proliferation of computers. Today’s personal computers are as powerful as the early mainframes, while mainframes are now smaller and have vastly more computing power than the early models.

Mass Production:
The product I have researched was made on a production line because every one in my group worked together and one person did one thing and the other people did a different thing.

EVALUATION
The good points: the bad points:
working well in my group. we sometimes didn't get along
we finished the product. but it didn't work the first time
I am happy with the materials I choosed. There is really no adjustments needed to be made. My solution is safe as a computer needs to be. I don't think that it could be made safer, its a computer!! The finished product didn't work the first time because we didn't download the right software for the computer; but the second we did it the right way and it works perfectly fine. The solution is the right size and shape beucase all we did was put in the graphics card and downloaded th software we needed.

this is the collected exiting example of the type of product!!!

Chips Ahoy #2

Yesterday we started editing the film. It was hard letting go of some of clips because they were funny and fun to film.

Chips Ahoy

A coulp days ago we started making a camercel about Chips Ahoy cookies. I was in a group with Amy, Jessica, and Lena. We made our film outside in the school court yard, put some flour on the bench, and started filming!! It was the most fun I have had in Tech so far.

Study Report

2010 cells phones

Today people are interested in the style, usability, and cost of cell phones.  Korean manufacturer Pantech is dishing out several new phones every year, and there very fond of the concept of cell phones, too! This manufacturer makes the coolest looking cell phones ever, like this one. The cell phone to the right is used by Korean Universities students.  This one is called the Wavy Stream, and looks the least like a cell phone until you really look hard enough.

The next cell phone I'd like to blog about is called the Waterfall Fish. I don't really have a lot of information
for this phone.  The Waterfall Fish is the the one on the left.  This phone has a built in camera.  The manufacturing company gave the phones named the concept feel to them.

The next phone I'd like to talk about is the Lily Tower.  The Lily Tower got it name because it looks like a tower of lilies.  This phone probably won't sell as well as the other phone will. On the other hand it well curved edges will fit good in your pocket.

This cell phone is next on the list of cell phones I found of this project.  The name of the phone is Simplice Section.  Now I know what you are thinking right now this looks more like a olden time calculater.

Today, in class I finished my poster of the lord of the rings. It looks very creative and very me. The lord of the rings is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who founded the ring of power from golems cave. For 60 years Bilbo had the ring; then he gave it to Frodo his nephew. Frodo with his friend Sam set off with seven conpanions the destroy to ring because they had to get rid of evil forever.

Friday, September 18, 2009

Today, we watched a movie in class; the movie was called: "The Astronaut Farmer". That was the second time I watched that movie and is an awsome movie; but because I watched it already I watched movie on youtube.com.

Monday September 21, 2009

Today we're doing group work, and my group is making a poster. How we are doing this you might ask?? Well, first, we came up with a poster that we wanted to do. Second, we will take a picture of us and put it on the poster(we will do this part tomorrow); and third well you will have to find that out another day.

On Tuesday we learned to play around on Flash. I wrote a letter on layer one and made it a motion tween. Then we at a guide motion to make the letter move around the screen. It was so much fun and so sweet. I love this class it's the best ever!!!!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Today I learned how to make a letter move and follow a line design. I didn't get it at first about after a while I figured it out and it was very cool. After that we had to save it and put it on to iMove. That part was very confusing, i didn't get it and i still don't maybe tomorrow I'll get it; but not now! Well thats all i have to say for now so bye!!!

Wednesday, September 16 2009

Today in class I toke WHMIS course test and on Friday I will find out my results.  I also learned how to export on Flash; and make iMovies. on iMovie we learned how to make a short
film! It was so interesting and very fun to learn.

Monday September 14, 2009

Today, I learned how to use Flash on the computer.  It was so cool, and extremly fun; when I got home I told my dad about my day in tech class.  He asked me if I could teach him how to do animation.  I told him it would not work because we don't have Flash on his computer so I can't teach you.  He was so disapointed so I bought him a Tim Horton's coffee.
